“LIFTing You Up With Hope For Tomorrow”
We begin this foundation in 2024 in Libby's honor. Libby was a bright and shining star in the lives of all those she touched. For those of us who knew her or were blessed by one of her many gifts, she cannot be replaced in our lives. She had an uncanny way of finding people that had a need - be it a health concern, a financial issue or a sad circumstance, and she would make it her mission to find a way to improve their situation or resolve the problem completely.
There is no better example of the gifts she gave freely than the gift of life she gave to the Kohen family. While at a conference in Atlanta, Georgia in 2018, Dr. Jacobson and her husband Keith acted quickly to resuscitate a 4-year-old boy, Zachary Kohen, who was found unresponsive in a swimming pool. Zachary is healthy and well today as a result of their life-saving actions. The American Heart Association honored the Jacobsons that year with the HeartSaver Hero Award.
After Zachary's accident, the Kohen family dedicated and named a star in the sky in her honor as a small gesture of their gratitude. They continue to look up at their Libby-Star, knowing that it represents the brilliance, the unwavering love, and the indomitable spirit that was Libby. As it shines brightly, it serves as a reminder that her light was the brightest of them all, illuminating the lives of countless others.
Dr. Elizabeth “Libby” Jacobson passed away on October 12, 2023.
What do you say about someone that was bigger than life - words cannot do her justice. My name is Keith, and I was blessed to have been married to Libby for more than 21years. She was my best friend, my partner in life, my partner in work, and my biggest supporter and advocate. She was the smartest, funniest, most compassionate, and most generous person I have ever known. Libby was a mother to three children and a 'Granny' to one sweet boy. She was a bright light in our family and the one who made it all work with love and laughter.
She was so much more though, too. Libby's other interests included traveling, hiking, and competitive tennis. She was a published author and enjoyed reading, drawing, paddleboarding and photography. She was curious and ambitious and pursued her goals with tenacity, style and grace.
The effect Libby had on many, many lives will resonate for eternity. She held herself and everyone around her to the highest standard and set an example for all of us to soar. She was an inspiration, especially to women, granting opportunities, confidence and mentorship that empowered them in life-changing ways. She was a shining light in the lives of all who knew her, and we have been forever blessed to have known and loved her.
Dr. Jacobson’s personal and career accomplishments are far too numerous to list in their entirety, but highlights include:
She graduated from Auburn University summa cum laude with a degree in microbiology and was Auburn's Most Outstanding Senior in 1993. She graduated from UAB medical school magna cum laude in 1999 and then completed her Dermatology Residency in 2003. She was an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and she served as a past President of the Alabama Dermatology Society.
In 2010, she was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award, which was granted to her by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation for her extraordinary commitment to volunteerism in the field of Dermatology. Her knowledge, expertise, and passion allowed her to educate many students, from basic principles to the most complicated cases. She dedicated her career to the daily fight against skin cancer, saving numerous lives.
2 Corinthians 9:7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Still under construction.
